Individuals wishing to operate as sole proprietors in Canada are required under Provincial Business Names and Partnership Act to register their business name by filing a Statement of Registration of Business/Trade Name with the Corporate Registries Office of their jurisdiction.
Before you begin your Canada online trade name registration there are a few things that you are going to need to know and/or have access to.

Sole proprietorships (one owner) operating in Canada or wishing to operate in Canada are not required to be registered if the business is carried on under the owner’s name. Step 1 Name Approval

- The words “college”, “institute”, or “university” cannot be used without the written consent of the Ministry of Education and training.

- Words that imply the business is associated with the Crown or the Government of Canada, any province of Canada or any municipal government may not used without the written consent of the appropriate authority.
Step 2 Filing Statement of Registration of Sole Proprietorship
Filing of a Statement of Registration of Sole Proprietorship is required mainly to provide proof that the name is in use by a particular business. Filing of the statement does not give any right of ownership of the name.
