The government committed to a Green Technology Future

  • The Government of Alberta’s climate change legislation commits to phasing out emissions from coal-fired power plants by 2030 while introducing a carbon levy, which took effect on January 1, 2017.
  • Commitments also include increasing renewable energy capacity, reducing methane emissions and capping oil sands emissions.
  • As of April 2018, Alberta will invest $5.3 billion to support a diversified, lower carbon economy over the next three years.
